15 people registered to Gazi University (GU) Polatlı Faculty of Arts and Sciences Chemistry Department, Physics Department remained empty this year.
While none of the students enrolled in the Physics department of the faculty, 15 students were enrolled in the Chemistry department, 10 in the Biology department, 47 in the Mathematics department, 47 in the History department, and 47 students in the Turkish Language and Literature department. This year, 6 students chose the university in 175 departments.
Gazi University Polatlı Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Prof. Şeref Okuducu pointed out that there are problems in the Physics department throughout Turkey and stated that nearly 100 Physics departments were closed.
Dean Okuducu stated that the rate of preference in other departments is higher than the average of Turkey. Expressing that the number of those who prefer registration will increase with additional placement, Prof. Dr. Şeref Okuducu noted that the Mathematics, Turkish Language and Literature and History departments are full. Reader reports that registration will begin in the first week of September.
The reader made the following assessment: “The only thing that upset us was that students from the Science departments did not come to our Physics department. There were no records last year either. This is not just our university's problem. Nearly 100 physics departments were closed in Turkey. There are only about 40 physics departments left. The loss of students related to the physics department continues. When we compare other departments with Turkey, while many departments do not accept students, all of our quotas for our departments are full. We hope that students will come from the additional quota related to the physics department. Although Physics, Chemistry, Biology and even Mathematics departments in many universities in the Central Anatolia region and other regions of Turkey have been closed, our departments other than physics are completely filled. This is a gratifying situation for us.”
Stating that they have completed 90 percent of the faculty staff, Prof. Dr. Şeref Okuducu said, “Currently, nearly 25 faculty members have started their duties. In the coming days, we will add nearly 18 research assistants to our staff. We will prepare for the 43-2013 academic year with approximately 2014 lecturers.” said.
