A Swiss-based pharmaceutical company discovered a new drug for lymph cancer that has reached its final stage. Eight centers from Turkey gave scientific support to the drug, whose code name is 'GA101' and which has no side effects.
A new drug has been developed that will revolutionize the fight against cancer. Positive results were obtained from the international study, in which a pharmaceutical company producing in Switzerland allocated a budget of 10 billion dollars. Accordingly, a new drug has been discovered for patients with lymph cancer, which has reached its final stage and is no longer hopeful. The drug, codenamed GA101, showed positive results in animals. It was also understood that it did not cause any side effects on humans.
60 out of 8 scientists are Turkish
37 scientists from 60 countries such as the USA, England and France take part in the project. Scientists from 8 different universities are working in the project, in which Turkey also plays a leading role. These universities are listed as Hacettepe University, Ankara University, İzmir 9 Eylül University, Ege University, Erciyes University, Istanbul University, Pamukkale University, Samsun 19 Mayıs University. Scientists, who have been working on the lymph cancer drug they named "GA101" for a long time, have reached a successful result.
Turkey Head of the Project Ankara University Internal Medicine and Hematology Specialist Prof. Dr. Osman İlhan said that this drug, which gives very successful results, aims to treat the cancer itself. Stating that the drug finds and destroys the cancer-causing cells in the lymph node, İlhan said, “While doing this, it does not kill the normal tissue. So this is definitely not chemotherapy but more effective than that. A targeted and disease-destroying drug without chemotherapy in incurable cancer patients. While the drug gave successful results in animal experiments, it was understood that it did not cause any side effects on humans. Now it is being tested on different genes," he said.
On the market in early 2015
prof. Dr. Explaining that the drug will be put on the market in the first months of 2015, İlhan said:
“The good thing here is that the experimental group received this drug free of charge without using it by patients in the USA, and that Turkey has shown the point it has reached scientifically. It is an honor in this respect. Previously, for example, we could hardly reach a new drug discovered in America. Either we couldn't get it or he would come to Turkey too late. At the point we have reached today, Turkish hematology has reached the international level. We will apply to the Ministry of Health and obtain a license.”
