REACHING THE 2023 TARGETS IS OUR DEBT

Explaining Turkey's 500 targets at the Capital 2023 ceremony, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan said, “In 2023, we will increase our exports to 500 billion dollars and our national income to 2 trillion dollars. I am in the wing of what we can easily do if we continue to grow at an average annual rate of 4,5-5 percent.” Stating that Turkey's population will be over 2023 million in 82, Çağlayan said, “We cannot reach your 2023 targets with the way and system we have come so far. We need a change of scissors, a mental change and transformation," he said. Stating that the targets should be reached in 100, the 2023th anniversary of the Republic, Çağlayan said, “2023 is the date that we owe to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and our ancestors. We have an obligation to reach these ideals in 2023. This is our duty," he said.

WE DID NOT ACHIEVE THE GOAL WE WANTED FOR INDUSTRIALIZATION

Underlining that industrialization is the only way for Turkey to reach its 2023 goals, Çağlayan said, “As the Minister, I would like to share that despite such success, we could not achieve the goal we wanted in terms of industrialization. Today, the industry has fallen to 16 percent of GNP. Whereas, Germany is at the level of 29 percent. The share of goods exports in GNP is 18 percent, and 41 percent in Germany. In 2023, we aim for the share of exports in national income to be 25 percent. However, Germany has a 41 percent share of exports today.”
