Marmarabirlik will generate energy from olive waste within the scope of the project approved by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
Hidamet Asa, the chairman of the board of directors of the union, stated in his written statement that the "Process Development Project for the Management of Marmarabirlik Olive Integrated Enterprise Wastes and Energy Recovery", which they submitted to TUBITAK, was approved.
Informing that Marzey AŞ, a subsidiary of Marmarabirlik, will dispose of olive operation waste water within the framework of a grant-supported project of 1 million 600 thousand liras, Asa stated that recycling will be provided and electrical energy will be produced with the principle of "zero waste".
The project under the coordination of Mehmet Şen, the environmental management manager in charge, was carried out by Prof. Dr. Bülent Keskinler and Assist. Assoc. Dr. Announcing that Murat Doğru will provide consultancy support, Asa said:
“With the project, electric power generation and blackwater-brine wastewater treatment pilot plants will be established at Marmarabirlik Başköy Integrated Facilities. Waste water will be examined, electricity will be produced from olive plant wastes. All of Marmarabirlik's energy needs will be met from this facility. Within the scope of transforming Marzey AŞ into an income generating company, infrastructure works are also continuing to provide environmental consultancy services. In accordance with environmental legislation, businesses have to employ environmental officers or purchase services from companies that have an environmental consultancy service qualification certificate. In this context, we continue to work on obtaining the aforementioned qualification certificate.”
Asa stated that they aim to provide environmental consultancy services to the private sector as well as meeting the energy needs of Marmarabirlik Integrated Facilities.
