YÖK has started a study for all university graduates to receive formation. “We have developed some mechanisms this year so that all graduates can get formation as soon as possible. In addition, we have developed a policy so that students in all field teaching departments can complete their formation education during their education and undergraduate education. We will share this with the whole public in the coming days.”
President of YÖK Gökhan Çetinsaya stated that they have developed some regulations for all university graduates to receive formation and that they will share this with the public in the coming days.
Çetinsaya, in her speech at the launch meeting of the "Leaders of Tomorrow Project" at the YÖK Conference Hall, said that they are trying to make YÖK more colorful and completely student and academy friendly by stripping it of its old image. Çetinsaya underlined that it is really difficult to change the image regarding this. Çetinsaya explained that she went through all the processes of YÖK since she was a student.
“These eyes saw all the negative images and practices of YÖK,” said Çetinsaya. In fact, it mediated the policies of the September 12 period. In the period of 12 February, to mediate the 28 February period”.
Çetinsaya said that it would not be enough to change the YÖK as a reaction to the past, and that a higher education system should be established in line with the 21st century. “We need to abolish YÖK completely. No matter how colorful patterns you make there, it is not an organization that belongs to today's Turkey and the world, in terms of its founding philosophy, mentality, and action. I hope that the executive and legislature will follow the necessary policies in this regard and this institution will turn into an institution of supervision, planning and coordination in accordance with the conditions and conditions of the 21st century Turkey and the world, as it is longed for," he said.
Çetinsaya noted that the higher education system will continue to grow because the young population will increase even more until the 2020s. Gökhan Çetinsaya stated that more young people would want to go to university with 12 years of compulsory education and underlined that YÖK should be transformed and abolished, but that a modern institution is needed to plan this whole higher education field. Expressing that they are trying to transform YÖK even though they do not change the image of YÖK, Çetinsaya reminded that during the studies on the new higher education law, they decided to create a system related to student councils, but the study of the law did not take place.
Explaining that these are considered as a separate legislative work and will be forwarded to the legislature, Çetinsaya said that they will form a Student Activities Committee. Stating that the commission will establish a dialogue between YÖK and students, Çetinsaya also noted that they have designed a website for students only, under the address “ogrenci.yok.gov.tr”.
Explaining that they are continuing their work on the “YÖKDİL” project, Çetinsaya stated that they are also working on the thesis center, and that with the system they will open in September, all articles, theses and books in Turkish universities will be made available on the web.
Stating that the number of international students has increased from 2011 thousand in 30 to 54 thousand today, Çetinsaya stated that they are also working to increase this number. He said that they have developed an "edufinder" filter so that foreign students can make their choices and get to know universities. He emphasized that they started to see this as a right that everyone should have.
Çetinsaya stated that it is possible to become a teacher with a one-year and a half-year master's education on good field knowledge, and that the formation is a certificate program that should be perceived as lifelong learning.
- All of you will have completed your formation training before you finish the 4th grade.
Çetinsaya said:
“For this reason, we have developed a number of mechanisms this year so that all graduates can get their formation as soon as possible. In addition, we have developed a policy so that students in all field teaching departments can complete their formation education during their undergraduate education. We will share this with the public in the coming days. So all of you will have completed your formation training before you finish the 4th grade. The issue of capacity is very important here. As a result, the quotas and people who will provide this training are limited, taking this into account, but we have developed a system where all of you will receive this training.”
Çetinsaya stated that career centers will be established in all universities and experts will inform students about their business life there. Çetinsaya stated that he also thinks that social responsibility projects and courses are the courses that all students should take. He said that there are enough quotas for approximately 800 thousand people who graduated from high school to be placed in the university.
Reminding that there are approximately 500 thousand people who are not satisfied with their department even though they have settled in the university and take the exam again, Çetinsaya stated that with the changes they will make regarding lateral transfers, candidates will perhaps no longer need to take the exam again. He also stated that they have increased significantly every year. Çetinsaya stated that candidates for lateral transfer should enter all LYS at the entrance to the university.
-Students colored the YÖK sign
Before the conference, students from about 60 universities wrote the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education on the cardboards, painted the letters with colored pencils and pasted these cardboards on the board's sign. The students chanted slogans such as "We want student-friendly YÖK", "We want it by doing, not by destroying". Later, the Chairman of YÖK Çetinsaya and his son Mustafa Selim held a sit-down reading action with the students.
