Underlining that missile fuel is produced by only a few developed countries in the world, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergün said, “Missile fuel, which is a strategic product, cannot be easily obtained. Selling countries may impose some conditions and restrictions. For this reason, it is very important that we produce the missile fuel locally," he said. Missile fuel was developed as a result of the 2-year work of TUBITAK National Metrology Institute (UME) researchers and started to be produced in the mini pilot facility by using the infrastructure facilities of the institute. Missile fuel produced by a series of chemical reactions in special reactors received a certificate of conformity with international standards in terms of quality.

Stating that the developed missile fuel is one of the best missile fuels produced in the world, Ergün stated that the fuel has high thrust. Ergün noted that the fuel is suitable for all newly developed turbojet powered missiles. Stating that the mini missile fuel facility established at TÜBİTAK UME has a daily capacity of 10 liters, Ergün said, “The necessary infrastructure preparations have been made for the mass production of the fuel. TÜBİTAK UME has completed the feasibility study for this new pilot plant. The production capacity of the new facility to be established will be up to 100 liters per day. Thus, the liter cost of the fuel will also be reduced.”
Expensive and difficult to obtain
Emphasizing that the missile fuel imported so far has been procured from abroad at astronomical prices, Ergün said, “More importantly than the price, the product cannot be supplied when you want it. Since we see missile fuel as a strategic product, we have been able to develop and produce this product locally," he said.
